This church is a body of believers under the leadership of Christ. We seek to proclaim the whole counsel of God to all nations. This is revealed in the infallible Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which are the only rule of faith and practice. Therefore, this church is committed to the preaching and teaching of the Scriptures; regular participation in the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper; loving exercise of church discipline as instructed by our Lord; fellowship; and, prayer to the end that each person might be better equipped to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. All this to the glory of God.
VISION
- That the people of Heritage Presbyterian Church join together every Sunday to worship the Lord and hear God's Word taught and preached from the Reformed perspective, and enjoy a meal with Christ.
- That the members of Heritage Presbyterian Church be instructed in the Scriptures and thereby equipped to disciple their families and others in the Gospel.
- That, as a result of God's marvelous grace and mercy, the people of Heritage Presbyterian Church will experience joy and peace, as they are set free from the bondage of sin. That they will obey Christ out of thanksgiving and not from mere obligation.
- That God will use the people of Heritage Presbyterian Church actively to reach out to unbelievers with the gospel; doing so as he transforms us all into the image of Christ. That our people will be warm, caring, and welcoming to all.
- That all members of Heritage pursue Christ's call to use their spiritual gifts, talents, and resources to his glory and honor, thereby serving to build his kingdom both locally and globally.
PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY
- Utilizing the resources of our Reformed heritage, Heritage Presbyterian Church worships God in spirit and in truth, praising him for his holy attributes and infinite perfections.
- Our ministry is shaped by our adoption and observance of the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger and Shorter Catechism, and the Book of Church Order.
- We will uphold the faith once received as revealed in the Holy Scriptures from all attacks seeking to undermine the truth of God and His infallible revealed word.
- Our preaching ministry is exegetically and redemptive-historically based. Its purpose is that we will hear Christ himself speak to us that we may do what he says.
- We believe that our corporate worship should be God-focused and Christ-centered. As such, it should be perceived as relevant and a basic function of God's people. We should each worship our Lord and King with all our heart, mind and soul.
- The sacraments as given by our Lord Jesus, Baptism and the Lord's Supper, are of immeasurable spiritual value to the body of believers and solemnly administered in this church. The church offers instruction concerning the Sacraments.
- We constantly highlight the gospel message that there is reconciliation with God through the life, death, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We further recognize that the more we realize our own sin, the greater the cross becomes in our lives. Grace, then, drives us to love Christ and His church more. Therefore, we will be motivated to obey out of thanksgiving for what He has done and continues to do in our lives.
- The moral law of God, contained in the Ten Commandants as expounded upon by our Lord in his Sermon on the Mount and other teachings, instructs us and is the absolute standard for our behavior. We continually fall short of these standards. Only by grace, by the intercession of Christ on our behalf, and by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us, do we achieve a measure of obedience to these standards in this world.
- We believe that a right understanding of God's Word is necessary for joyful and obedient living as God's children. To help foster this, we offer a variety of Christian education opportunities for all ages.
- The Great Commission calls us to teach and baptize. Our church is one that encourages us to reach out to unbelievers with the gospel message by personal or friendship evangelism, corporate efforts as a church, and mission activities.
- Heritage is active in expanding the reach of the gospel by developing and supporting new Reformed churches and university ministries.
- We are at least as concerned about growth in depth as much as breadth, thus the time to plant new Reformed churches in the greater Oklahoma City area comes when our numbers preclude the elders of Heritage to be involved in the lives of every family.
- Many activities of the church (children and youth events, etc., but especially public worship) are actively presented to unbelievers living near the church facility and beyond, with the hope that they will participate in these functions and be impacted by the gospel of the Kingdom.
- Because our Lord Jesus ministered by word and deed in a fallen world, we seek to be active in mercy ministry serving the physical and spiritual needs of those in and outside of our body as the Lord gives us resources.
- Following the early Christians' example, our church utilizes small Care Groups to shepherd members and friends through prayer, Bible study and fellowship.
- The women's ministry serves the church in many ways, including small groups, seminars, mercy ministries and other fellowship activities.
- We will seek serve our members by helping them find a place service using their spiritual gifts for the building up of the entire congregation. We remain aware that the most important service anyone does in the church is public worship.
- We encourage people who receive and rest upon Jesus Christ alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel to submit to the government and discipline of the church in membership and become fully involved in the life of the body.
- We desire to preserve and strengthen the family unit as ordained by God in the Garden of Eden.
- All humans are created in the image of God, and are precious in the eyes of the Lord because of this fact. We, therefore, labor to preserve all life including infants in the womb, the severely ill, and the aged.
- The Reformed church should be ever reforming. The Christian should be ever repenting. We pray for God's power in the gospel to change our lives individually, and adopt and pursue this philosophy of ministry corporately, as the Holy Spirit leads us in sanctification.
